This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by being responsible for the daily work activities of building trades personnel and contractors including preventive maintenance, repairs, managing the Injury, Illness & Prevention Program (IIPP) for the Plant Operations Unit staff, and maintaining supplies and services required to complete these tasks.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief of Plant Operations III.
This classification is eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area at 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.
This position requires a medical clearance.

• Knowledge of: methods, materials, tools, & equipment used in building construction, maintenance, & repair work; methods used in requisitioning, receiving, checking, storing, & issuing materials & supplies; principles of effective supervision; codes, rules, regulations, safety orders & safety practices applying to the various building trades; department's affirmative action program objectives, a manager's role in the affirmative action program, & the processes available to meet affirmative action objectives.
• Ability to: assign, supervise, and inspect work of building trades staff; schedule & coordinate the work various trade groups; read & interpret blueprints & work from plans & specifications; estimate material & labor requirements; analyze situations accurately & adopt an effective course of action; keep accurate records & prepare reports; effectively contribute to the department's affirmative action objectives.
• Possesses or previously held a Contractor License.
