Job Description

Nevada Gold Mines is seeking an experienced Environmental Superintendent to join our Environmental Team at the Cortez Mine. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of environmental professionals, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining ISO 14001 certification, and managing state-level permitting activities. This role is vital for the effective execution of our environmental programs, aligning with both corporate standards and regulatory requirements while building strong relationships with regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of environmental professionals to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and secure necessary permits for site initiatives and projects. This includes coordinating state-level permitting strategies, guiding project teams, managing permit application preparation, and overseeing regulatory agency interactions.

  • Environmental Studies: Provide coordination and guidance on environmental studies to support permitting and other environmental initiatives.

  • Environmental Management System (EMS): Oversee the management and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all communications with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

  • Liaison Role: Act as the primary liaison between the company and environmental regulatory agencies.

  • Budget Management: Manage budgets related to environmental operations, including development, forecasting, and tracking.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with supply chain personnel to procure contractor and consultant services as needed.

  • Incident Response: Participate in or lead investigations of major environmental incidents and assist in developing and tracking corrective and remedial action plans.

  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to employees and contractors on environmental obligations, ensuring a clear understanding and compliance.

  • On-Call Support: Serve on-call after hours for environmental incident response, as needed.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support site and team objectives.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental science, environmental studies, hydrology, hydrogeology, mine engineering, ecology, or a related field is required.

  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of direct experience in managing environmental compliance programs and permitting projects, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role is required.

  • Permitting Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Federal and State permitting processes (e.g., NEPA) is required.

  • Compliance Systems: Familiarity with environmental compliance systems and ISO 14001 is required.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to summarize and effectively communicate complex issues concisely is required.

  • Technical Skills: Strong computer skills are required.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.

  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders is required.

  • Continuous Improvement: Capability to identify and implement opportunities for improvement is required.

  • GIS Proficiency: Proficient GIS skills are strongly preferred.

  • Mining Knowledge: General understanding of mining operations is preferred.

  • Results-Oriented: Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time-sensitive deadlines is required.

  • Outdoor Work: Willingness and ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions is required.
