Senior Electrical Engineer Solar + Storage

Our client is a leading renewable energy engineering firm specializing in commercial and industrial (C&I), PV+ESS, and microgrid project design, engineering, and consulting. They provide expert services to electrical contractors, energy developers, and municipalities, offering engineering solutions from initial feasibility to full permit and construction plan sets. With a strong emphasis on technical excellence and innovation, they are committed to delivering high-quality engineering and consulting services for renewable energy projects.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in designing, consulting on, and overseeing complex solar-plus-storage and microgrid projects ranging from 250kW to 15MW. This position requires a deep technical background in power system studies, interconnection compliance, and energy storage integration. The ideal candidate will provide expert-level electrical engineering support while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to industry advancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in the development of solar PV and energy storage system (ESS) solutions, ensuring best practices and compliance.
  • Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, etc.).
  • Review interconnection applications and ensure compliance with utility interconnection requirements.
  • Prepare and stamp permit and construction drawings, as well as utility interconnection documents.
  • Mentor and support the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends, applying insights to optimize system design and efficiency.
  • Work closely with clients, utilities, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success and compliance.

Key Qualifications:

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Licensing: Electrical Professional Engineering (PE) license required (multiple state licenses preferred).

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy engineering, with a focus on solar and energy storage.
  • Expertise in low-voltage commercial and industrial system design.
  • Experience in medium voltage (4kV to 35kV) system design is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, CYME, or similar electrical design software.
  • Strong understanding of NEC/CEC, IFC, UL, IEEE, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Experience with BESS integration, SCADA, telemetry, and grid automation.
  • Strong analytical skills for power system modeling, relay coordination, and arc flash analysis.

  • Ability to work closely with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies to streamline project execution.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.

Salary Range: $115-160k
