Job Title: Lab Technician

Location: Houston, TX

Type: Contract 

Pay Rate: $25-$28/hour 

Shift: Rotating Schedule 


Overview: Specialty Chemical Company is seeking a Laboratory Technician to be a critical member of the Quality Control team to ensure the purity, safety, and quality of all materials processed by the company. The ideal candidate would have a foundational knowledge of chemistry and laboratory techniques, strong attention to detail and familiar with hazardous waste/chemical safety.  

Responsibilities:

Sample Analysis & Testing 
  • Receive, log, and prepare diverse chemical samples, including raw materials, in-process streams (especially spent acid and regenerated acid), and final virgin acid products.
  • Conduct routine quantitative and qualitative chemical and physical tests, such as titrations, density, specific gravity, pH measurement, and acid concentration analysis (wet chemistry).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments (e.g., spectrophotometers, balances, conductivity meters) following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform trace impurity analysis to ensure high-purity grade acid meets demanding customer specifications (e.g., in the electronics and battery sectors).
Quality Assurance & Compliance 
  • Compare test results against established product specifications to determine final product approval (approve, hold, or reject).
  • Accurately record and document all test data, observations, and procedures in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or official lab records.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical solutions, buffers, and reagents needed for daily analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for compliance with ISO and/or other internal Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Strictly adhere to all company, federal, and state safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), particularly when handling concentrated and spent sulfuric acid.
Requirements: 
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree (A.A.S.) in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Applied Science, or a closely related technical field, OR a minimum of 1 year of equivalent hands-on experience in a production or industrial lab environment.
  • Solid foundation in basic chemical principles, laboratory math, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) for data entry and basic reporting.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, which may include nights, weekends, or holidays, as dictated by 24/7 plant operations.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as ICP-OES or Atomic Absorption (AA).
  • Familiarity with chemical process control, manufacturing quality control, or LIMS.
  • Prior experience working with corrosive and hazardous materials (acids, bases).
